Recent reports from Argentina have revealed concerning news regarding Maria Sol Messi, the sister of renowned football player Lionel Messi. Prominent TV journalist and presenter Angel de Brito has communicated updates following a conversation with Messi’s mother, Celia Cuccittini.

Maria Sol was involved in an accident while driving in Miami, resulting in serious injuries including spinal fractures and burns that necessitated immediate medical treatment. De Brito shared insights during an American television program, LAM, indicating that while Maria Sol is currently out of danger, her upcoming wedding in Rosario, Argentina, scheduled for January 3, will unfortunately need to be postponed.

According to De Brito, Maria Sol sustained two fractured vertebrae, a fractured heel, and wrist injuries. She has commenced her rehabilitation process in Rosario. Initially, reports surrounding the nature of her accident were inconsistent, with early information suggesting she lost control of her vehicle. Later updates from her family indicated that the burns may have occurred after she fell from a motorbike. As of now, the circumstances surrounding the accident remain unconfirmed.

Maria Sol is engaged to Julian “Tuli” Arellano, who is part of the coaching staff for Inter Miami’s U19 team. The couple has a long-standing relationship, having grown up in the same neighborhood, much like Messi and his wife Antonela Roccuzzo, who married in their hometown on June 30, 2017. The Messi family, including their three sons, was expected to attend Maria Sol’s wedding.

Throughout her brother’s illustrious career, Maria Sol has maintained a low profile, choosing to focus on her work as a clothing designer and entrepreneur. After residing in Spain, she returned to Argentina to pursue her professional projects.

As Messi concludes another successful season in the United States, where he led Inter Miami to a historic MLS Cup victory in 2025 and earned a Golden Boot, he will be available to support his sister during her recovery. Messi has recently signed a new three-year contract that will keep him with Inter Miami through 2028.
