Manchester United is actively pursuing the opportunity to organize a lucrative friendly match in Saudi Arabia this season, particularly due to a lighter fixture schedule resulting from their failure to qualify for European football last year. The potential for a Middle East friendly has gained momentum following the rescheduling of United’s match against Everton to February 23. The Red Devils are set to face West Ham on February 10, leaving them with nearly two weeks without a fixture, as reported by The Times.

This gap in the calendar has opened up the possibility of a trip to Saudi Arabia, with expectations that first-team stars will participate in the match. However, the final decision will likely be made after their FA Cup clash against Brighton. Should United progress past Brighton, they would then play a fourth-round match on February 14, 2026, which could impact their plans.

United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, has expressed enthusiasm for a mid-season friendly when questioned about the prospect. Earlier in the season, he stated to reporters: “We have to do it. When we missed out on Europe, we recognized the need to address various aspects, including our fans and budget. We want to connect with our supporters worldwide, and we must create the opportunity to do so.”

According to The Times, Serie A giants AC Milan could potentially serve as opponents for Manchester United during this friendly, as they too are experiencing a similar gap in their schedule and are not participating in European competitions this season.

The prospect of a Saudi-friendly has also sparked speculation about a potential matchup against former United star Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. A high-profile friendly between the two teams could provide a financial boon for Manchester United.

Recently, Ronaldo expressed his feelings about his former club, indicating that he is saddened by their struggles. In an interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored, he remarked: “I’m sad, because the club is one of the most important in the world and holds a special place in my heart. It is crucial for Manchester United to collaborate with intelligent individuals to build a solid foundation for the future. The potential of the club is tremendous, and I hope for positive changes in the near future.”

As they contemplate the friendly, Manchester United’s immediate focus will be on improving their Premier League performance following a disappointing defeat to Aston Villa. Their upcoming fixtures include a Boxing Day match against Newcastle United, followed by a visit from Wolves to Old Trafford on December 30. United will face these challenges without their captain, Bruno Fernandes, who is sidelined with an injury sustained during the match against Villa.
