Wolves are currently bottom of the Premier League and recently dismissed Vitor Pereira after going ten games without a win. The club is actively searching for a new manager. Rob Edwards, who currently manages Middlesbrough, quickly emerged as one of the leading candidates. However, Middlesbrough is determined to keep him, especially as the team sits third in the Championship.

Gary O’Neil, another early candidate, withdrew from discussions on Monday. This leaves Edwards as the primary target, but any appointment would now require a significant compensation fee. Edwards only took charge at Middlesbrough in June and is under a multi-year contract.

Edwards is a former Wolves player who made over 100 appearances for the club between 2004 and 2008. He also briefly served as Wolves’ interim coach in 2016. After managing Forest Green Rovers to success in 2021, he moved to Watford in 2022, though his tenure there was short. He later took over at Luton Town in November 2022, leading them to their first-ever Premier League promotion, before the club was relegated the following season.

Now, Wolves remain eight points from safety with just two points in the league. They travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday. Meanwhile, Middlesbrough is focused on maintaining stability as they continue their push for promotion under Edwards.
