Real Oviedo Faces Challenges as Winter Transfer Window ApproachesReal Oviedo Faces Challenges as Winter Transfer Window Approaches

Real Oviedo, one of the teams in La Liga that urgently needs to strengthen its squad to secure its place in the division, must first facilitate player departures before engaging in the winter transfer market.

The club’s roster is currently at full capacity with 25 players registered, meaning no new signings can be officially added unless there are outgoing transfers. Notably, this includes the French winger Brandon Domingues, a summer acquisition who has yet to play a single minute in league matches.

Another player with an uncertain future is Venezuelan striker Salomón Rondón. Despite being the team’s leading scorer with two goals, he may be on the verge of returning to Mexican football, having originally joined Real Oviedo at the request of Jesús Martínez, president of Grupo Pachuca.

Real Oviedo has struggled offensively, having scored only seven goals so far this season, making them one of the least prolific teams in the history of La Liga after 17 matches. They have recorded four consecutive 0-0 draws at home and have found the net in only four games this season. Therefore, acquiring attacking players will be a priority this January.

Nicolás Fonseca, a 27-year-old defensive midfielder from Uruguay, is poised to become the first signing of the winter transfer window for Real Oviedo, joining on loan from Club León. Fonseca has international experience with the Uruguayan national team and has previously played for River Plate.

Currently sitting second to last in La Liga with just 11 points, Real Oviedo will resume training this Sunday at El Requexón as they prepare for their upcoming match against Deportivo Alavés on January 4.
