Youri Baas: Rising Star at Ajax Draws Attention from Top European Clubs

Youri Baas has become quite popular in the transfer market, and it is unlikely that the defender will remain with Ajax this summer.

According to transfer journalist Ekrem Konur, the competition for Baas’s signature is heating up, with reports indicating that seven clubs have expressed interest—five from the Premier League, one from Ligue 1, and one from the Bundesliga. It is anticipated that Ajax could sell Baas for around €30 million.

Anco Jansen recently commented on Baas’s performance on ESPN, stating, “Even during Ajax’s difficult phase, I found him to be incredibly impressive. He has developed remarkably, especially with his ball skills in buildup play. The initiative he takes is vital. He has become indispensable for the team. While he previously played sparingly as a left-back at NEC, he has returned to Ajax and has proven to be essential in defense. Despite the challenges Ajax faced in the first half of the season, I thought he performed exceptionally well.”

Baas himself aims to take the next step and become a leader at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. When asked by Voetbal International about his leadership role models, he mentioned, “There are different types of leaders. For instance, Virgil van Dijk is very vocal, while Dusan Tadic, although also vocal, leads by example. I’m working on defining my own leadership style, as not everyone is the same. Am I a talker or a doer? I believe I can be a bit of both.”
