Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory against Everton at Stamford Bridge on December 3, ending a streak of three winless matches across all competitions, which included defeats to Leeds United and Atalanta. The team, under significant pressure to perform, was bolstered by goals from Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto, ensuring they left the pitch with all three points.

In the post-match press conference, Coach Maresca praised his players, stating, “This is why I commend the players; despite numerous challenges, they have excelled after a difficult week. Since my arrival at the club, the last 48 hours have been the most challenging because of a lack of support from various quarters. I am particularly delighted for Malo, as his effort, along with that of the team, clearly demonstrates their commitment to the club.”

When further questioned about his comments, Maresca elaborated: “The last 48 hours have been difficult because of the lack of support for both me and the team.”

Upon being asked if the issue stemmed from internal conflict or fan-related concerns, he clarified, “In general, I have great affection for the fans, and I am pleased with their support.”

Reflecting on his earlier statements nearly two weeks later, Maresca informed Sky Sports, “In any close-knit environment, it’s normal to experience ups and downs. Such dynamics occur in any family.”

When asked if he was frustrated by the continued scrutiny of his 48-hour remarks, he responded, “No, what is truly frustrating is that, two or three weeks later, we are still discussing the same issue. I understand that media reactions can spark interest immediately following an event, but it is bothersome that we are still revisiting this after clarifying that there are no issues with those in higher positions, which I addressed a week ago prior to the Newcastle match.”

This season at home, Chelsea has achieved notable victories, including a win against Premier League champions Liverpool and a decisive 3-0 triumph over Barcelona in the Champions League. When questioned about the team’s tendency to perform better against more prominent opponents, Maresca acknowledged this trend while emphasizing the necessity for consistent high-level performances against all teams.

He conveyed to Sky Sports, “This observation is indeed accurate at this moment; it explains why we are not currently positioned near the top. We must enhance our consistency against various teams, which is a key objective moving forward. If we aspire to compete for titles at the season’s conclusion, consistency is essential; otherwise, we will struggle. Hence, I view December, January, and February as crucial months, enabling us to set our targets for March, ideally positioning us to contend for higher ambitions.”

In a related note, speculation regarding Antoine Semenyo’s future at Bournemouth has gained traction, with numerous clubs, particularly Manchester City, linked to the winger. Reports from The Athletic indicate that while Chelsea appreciates Semenyo’s talent, they currently have no intentions of pursuing him in January, expressing confidence in their present squad depth.
