Agyemang Shines with Goal but Derby Settles for Draw Against West BromAgyemang Shines with Goal but Derby Settles for Draw Against West Brom

Agyemang’s goal came just before halftime, with both teams level at Pride Park. A free kick taken to the left of West Brom’s penalty area was directed towards goalkeeper Max O’Leary, who had recently joined the club. However, O’Leary mishandled the ball, which fell perfectly to Agyemang’s feet. He effortlessly tapped it into the net, giving his side a 1-0 lead as they headed into the break.

Regrettably for Derby County, this advantage was short-lived, as they conceded an equalizer in stoppage time to substitute Chris Mepham. This late goal allowed West Brom to salvage a point from the match, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

This latest goal marks a significant achievement for Agyemang, a former Charlotte FC striker who transferred to Derby for $8 million this summer. He has evidently settled well in the Championship, boasting five goals in his last ten appearances. Notably, Derby has secured at least a point in every match where Agyemang has found the net. Overall, he has accumulated eight goals and three assists this season over 1,855 minutes of play, making him the team’s leader in goal contributions with a total of 11—one more than fellow striker Carlton Morris, who has netted 10 goals this season.

Derby’s frustration with Friday’s draw is palpable, as it hinders their chances of making significant progress up the league table. With this point, they currently sit on 42 points and are striving for a position in the promotion playoffs. Their next fixture is scheduled for January 30 against Bristol, currently in 11th place, who are just two points behind Derby with a game in hand.
