Ajax continues to face challenges in its search for a new head coach. According to Algemeen Dagblad, the chances of Erik ten Hag making a return to the Johan Cruijff ArenA anytime soon are extremely slim.

Following the dismissal of John Heitinga, interim coach Fred Grim stepped in for the club’s match against FC Utrecht, which ended in a 2–1 defeat. The Dutch outlet questioned the next step for the Amsterdam club:

“Who will be sitting on the bench for Ajax after the international break?” wrote Algemeen Dagblad. “The only certainty for Grim is that he will remain at Ajax. If the club appoints a new coach who does not include him in the staff, he will revert to his position as Head of Coaching.”

This uncertainty comes at a critical moment for the club, which has endured one of its most turbulent starts to a season in recent memory. The Ajax board is reportedly evaluating both domestic and international candidates, but no agreement appears close as of yet.
