Ajax Faces Discontent Amidst Management ChangesAjax Faces Discontent Amidst Management Changes

John Heitinga has departed from Ajax following his dismissal, while Alex Kroes appears set to finish the season in his role as technical director. However, the sentiment among players in Amsterdam seems less than favorable.

According to Voetbal International, Ajax’s players are reportedly “endlessly frustrated” with Kroes’s management. There is significant resistance within the squad regarding his policies: “As the season commences, it is evident that no one at Ajax is fully satisfied. Both the technical staff and the roster exhibit a clear lack of quality and balance.”

In the wake of Heitinga’s exit, Kroes offered to make his position available. He shared with Algemeen Dagblad, “I have always felt co-responsible. My commitment to the role was substantial.” However, his colleagues were not ready to part ways with him just yet: “A discussion arose when I provided an explanation. They asked if they could utilize my expertise until a new technical director was appointed. After some deliberation, I agreed, especially since it was a strong request from both the management and the supervisory board.” Nonetheless, Kroes confirmed that he would be leaving at the end of the season, stating, “It is certainly not an option for me to extend my contract.”

Player Remko Pasveer has already expressed his concerns regarding the club’s acquisition strategies: “It is crucial to have a certain level of experience and leadership. Henderson was a leader on the field, clear about his intentions. He kept the forwards coordinated, while I managed the defense, where I provided significant direction. Currently, there is a noticeable lack of guidance in this area.”

The situation at Ajax highlights the ongoing challenges the club faces as it seeks to realign itself both on and off the pitch.
