Ajax Faces Setback in Cup Match Against AZAjax Faces Setback in Cup Match Against AZ

On Wednesday, Ajax experienced a substantial setback, losing 6-0 in their cup match against AZ. This defeat was particularly disheartening for the Amsterdam team, which finished the match with ten players following a red card issued to Owen Wijndal for a reckless foul on Wouter Goes. Subsequently, Wijndal addressed the media after the game, despite his disciplinary action, conveying a clear message regarding his position at the club.

Reports suggest that Wijndal is among the players considered surplus to requirements at Ajax, with potential departures anticipated either this winter or the upcoming summer. Alongside teammates Anton Gaaei, Oliver Edvardsen, Kian Fitz-Jim, and Branco van den Boomen, Wijndal is viewed as expendable by the club’s management. When questioned by an ESPN interviewer about his status, the defender remarked, “I haven’t heard anything myself.”

However, it appears that Wijndal’s prospects at Ajax are diminishing, as the club openly seeks to recruit a new left-back. Ajax has reportedly made tentative efforts to acquire Quilindschy Hartman on loan, and there is also notable interest in Souffian El Karouani from FC Utrecht, as reported by De Telegraaf.
