Ajax Faces Uncertainty with Fred Grim’s Position

In recent years, Ajax has gone through a significant number of coaches, including Alfred Schreuder, John Heitinga, Maurice Steijn, John van ’t Schip, Francesco Farioli, and Heitinga once more. The question now arises: will Fred Grim also be leaving soon?

Is Ajax already contemplating a departure from Fred Grim? This would indeed be quite unusual, as Grim is serving as the interim coach in Amsterdam, acting as a caretaker until the new technical director, Jordi Cruijff, finds a suitable successor. It is anticipated that this successor will not join until the upcoming summer, or at the very least, after the current football season concludes.

Should Grim be dismissed, Jordi Cruijff may face challenges in filling the head coach position at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The leading candidates for this role—Eder Sarabia from Elche, Iñigo Pérez from Rayo Vallecano, and Míchel from Girona—are all bound by ongoing contracts. However, Rayo is currently struggling in LaLiga, which may make Sarabia available sooner than expected. The viability of appointing this Spanish coach to such a high-pressure role in Amsterdam is certainly debatable.
