Ajax Players Thank Fans Despite Heavy DefeatAjax Players Thank Fans Despite Heavy Defeat

After suffering a devastating 6-0 defeat against AZ Alkmaar, the Ajax players decided to express their gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support.

Anton Gaaei even attempted to give away his match jersey to a supporter in the away section, but the fan declined the gesture, promptly throwing the jersey back onto the field.

In the KNVB Cup round of 16, Ajax was decisively beaten by AZ Alkmaar. Despite Fred Grim’s team having been in good form leading up to the match, something seemed to break on that Wednesday evening. Gaaei came on as a substitute seventeen minutes before the end, but, like the rest of his teammates, he did not leave a strong impression. After the final whistle, the Ajax players sought out the away supporters. The 23-year-old Dane offered his match jersey to a fan, who clearly was not interested, as evidenced by the blog Ajax Life that reported, “Anton Gaaei thought he was doing something nice by throwing his shirt into the section. However, it was immediately returned to him. ‘You can keep it. Not good, shirt back,'” it stated.

There are rumors that Ajax may be considering parting ways with Gaaei. Reports indicate that Paris FC has shown renewed interest in the right-back this winter, with SS Lazio also mentioned as a possible suitor. Mike Verweij believes that Ajax would be inclined to sell him if a suitable offer materializes this winter. In a recent video segment from De Telegraaf, he stated, “If Ajax gets the chance to sell him well this winter, I think they will take it.”
