Ajax Prepares for Strategic Changes with Jordi Cruijff s AppointmentAjax Prepares for Strategic Changes with Jordi Cruijff s Appointment

Ajax Amsterdam has not been particularly active in the winter transfer market thus far, but they may have secured their most crucial addition already. Jordi Cruijff is set to take on the role of technical director starting in February, succeeding Alex Kroes. This development was discussed in the podcast Transfermind by SoccerNews.

During the ongoing winter transfer period, Cruijff will not involve himself in potential acquisitions. Ajax and the new director have deliberately chosen to formalize their partnership only after the transfer window concludes. This approach allows Cruijff to start fresh and concentrate on the upcoming seasons. Transfer journalist Mounir Boualin describes this strategy as a smart move. “Some may call it cowardly, but I believe it’s very clever for both Ajax and Cruijff,” he remarked in Transfermind.

Ajax is known to be seeking reinforcements this season, specifically targeting a left-back and a defensive midfielder. However, Boualin suggests that the club should be frugal during this winter period. “Ajax should only seize opportunities that they believe will genuinely enhance the team after the winter break. Otherwise, they should keep their finances intact,” he concluded. The record champions are currently linked with Daley Blind and are also interested in potentially renting a defensive midfielder for half a season, possibly from the Premier League.
