In the second half, Ajax struggled to perform well against FC Volendam. Unlike their previous opponents, Volendam was unable to capitalize on Ajax’s shortcomings.

Interim coach Fred Grim humorously commented on a proposed regulation change after the match, saying, “We had a regulatory change,” while smiling at ESPN. “Our efficiency was better than in previous matches.”

Captain Davy Klaassen added, “I think this is a positive step forward. It should be this way. We shouldn’t act as if we’re playing against Real Madrid, with all due respect. This is an improvement compared to our earlier games. At times, we made the wrong choices in attack. I’m not sure if it’s a matter of players choosing for themselves or thinking that it’s the best option at the moment, but we simply need to improve our decision-making. To make it easier for ourselves, we need to perform better in that area.”

Youri Baas, who scored both of Ajax’s goals, emphasized the importance of maintaining a solid defense, stating, “During halftime, we stressed the need to keep a clean sheet, as we have often experienced a decline in performance during the second half. While the second half wasn’t exceptional, we did not find ourselves in trouble. However, looking at the number of chances we created… I wonder if players are overly focused on wanting to score themselves. The match ended 2-0, meaning it wasn’t secured. If we had made it 3-0 or 4-0, it would have been game over, and we didn’t achieve that today.”
