Ajax Seeks New Defensive Midfielder Amidst Squad ChangesAjax Seeks New Defensive Midfielder Amidst Squad Changes

Ajax is currently in search of a new number six, specifically a defensive midfielder. However, the question arises: is this pursuit genuine, or have they already secured a player?

In mid-December, Ajax welcomed Takehiro Tomiyasu, a Japanese wing-back who transferred from Bologna to Arsenal for €18.6 million in 2021. Unfortunately, he faced a persistent knee injury, leading to the termination of his contract with The Gunners in July 2025. Now, he has signed a performance-based contract at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Furthermore, Football International has reported on the club’s intentions regarding potential new signings: “The club aims to acquire a controlling midfielder and a defender in the coming weeks. Both signings will likely involve loan agreements. The supervisory board believes it is unwise to make significant investments right before the appointment of a new technical director and coach. The last thing Ajax needs is new financial losses.”
