Ajax Weighs Transfer Decision for Kodai Sano Amid High DemandsAjax Weighs Transfer Decision for Kodai Sano Amid High Demands

Ajax is hopeful of acquiring Kodai Sano from NEC in the closing days of the transfer window. However, NEC is demanding a substantial transfer fee, complicating negotiations. Rafael van der Vaart has advised Ajax against pursuing this deal, echoing sentiments from former players Wim Kieft and Pierre van Hooijdonk, who believe that selling their midfielder at this juncture would be unwise.

During his weekly segment on Studio Voetbal, Van der Vaart articulated his stance on Ajax’s interest in the NEC standout. He stated, “I would never sign Sano for twenty million. That’s far too excessive. He is undoubtedly a good player, but that price is outrageous. I would advise them to leave him be and search for alternatives. If not, they might as well refrain from making any signings.”

Pierre van Hooijdonk suggested that NEC should bide their time until the summer transfer window. He noted, “You have a legitimate chance of finishing second, which brings significant rewards. Additionally, you’ll have a player competing in the World Cup, which will elevate his status. If you ever have a serious opportunity for the Champions League, this is the year to seize it.”

The critical question remains whether Sano will still be a player for NEC when the transfer window closes. Despite reports from Ajax club watcher Mike Verweij in De Telegraaf indicating that a verbal agreement has been reached for a 4.5-year contract with the player, the situation remains fluid and complex.
