Ajax’s Broken Promises: Youth Development Under Scrutiny

Ajax has historically been known for developing and promoting its own talent. However, that reputation seems to have diminished significantly in recent times. According to club observer Johan Inan, several youth players were met with ’empty promises’ from the club over the past summer.

This season, Ajax intended to integrate more youth players into the first team, targeting six to seven talents to fill positions 19 to 25 on the senior squad. “Ultimately, that goal has not been fully realized,” Inan stated during the Voetbalpodcast of the Algemeen Dagblad. Similar to the previous season under coach Francesco Farioli, the youth players have seen minimal playing time in Ajax 1 this season, despite the club’s assurances.
