Ajax s Coaching Future Dick Schreuder as a Potential SuccessorAjax s Coaching Future Dick Schreuder as a Potential Successor

In recent weeks, there has been considerable speculation regarding the successor to Fred Grim at Ajax. The current interim coach is set to complete this season, after which technical director Jordi Cruijff will appoint a new head coach next summer. One name being considered is Dick Schreuder, the trainer of NEC, who has acknowledged this interest in the podcast D’n Hoefcast.

According to reports from Het Parool, Schreuder is a serious candidate to take over from Grim at the end of the season. Last summer, he was in discussions with Ajax, but those conversations ultimately did not lead to an agreement. Instead, Schreuder opted to join NEC, where he has made a notable impact this season. He remarked, “You hear about it from those around you, as they mention it quite often, but with the frequency of such rumors lately, it starts to feel less significant. It’s nice to be recognized, but I am genuinely enjoying my time at NEC.”

Jordi Cruijff is reportedly a strong admirer of Schreuder and his coaching style, as noted by Het Parool. This admiration suggests that he may indeed be a contender for the Ajax position next season. However, Mike Verweij from De Telegraaf has strongly refuted the claims made by Het Parool, stating, “I thought, huh? Wasn’t Schreuder already committed to NEC back in March?” He asserts that Ajax did not reach out to him last summer. Nonetheless, Verweij does not entirely rule out the possibility of Schreuder being approached by Ajax in the coming summer.
