On Friday, Mike Verweij, Ajax club watcher for De Telegraaf, reported that the Amsterdam club is keen on securing a talented right-back. However, this claim has been contradicted by another source.

Verweij revealed that Ajax is interested in acquiring João Pedro Chermont, a 19-year-old Brazilian from Santos, where Neymar currently plays. The report suggested that Chermont could join Ajax on loan, with a purchase option included.

Is Verweij’s story accurate?

Brazilian football journalist Bruno Lima, who previously covered Santos, investigated the matter. He noted, “According to De Telegraaf, one of the leading newspapers in the Netherlands, Ajax is interested in João Pedro Chermont. Copenhagen has also proposed a loan deal with a purchase option.”

This situation presents a challenge for Anton Gaaei, as noted by Het Parool last month. The competition for the Danish player is intensifying, while coach Fred Grim has not consistently shown confidence in his right-back. Earlier this season, Ajax turned down offers for Gaaei.
