omidbasir- Will Ajax finally succeed in securing a number six for their squad this coming summer? It’s a question that remains uncertain.

Stije Resink is currently in pole position to become Ajax’s new number six.

At present, technical director Jordi Cruijff is exploring the market, and various names occasionally surface. During the winter transfer window, for instance, the Amsterdam club made an attempt to acquire Kodai Sano from NEC, offering up to fifteen million euros, a bid deemed insufficient by the club in Goffertstadion. It is likely that the Japanese player will be unattainable for Ajax this summer, given the significant interest he has garnered.

“No single player will improve everything at once.”

It has become a well-known fact that for over a year, there has been contact between Resink’s camp and the Amsterdam club as they seek to reinforce their midfield. Cruijff commented to Voetbal International regarding the transfer complications experienced in January: “There was a list of options for the number six position, and we prioritized them accordingly. This process took place, but sometimes what you want is not feasible. Dreams are free, but reality can often be pricier. We made the effort, yet sometimes it simply doesn’t work out. That is disappointing, but it’s part of football; we must move past that and find solutions. The importance of this position will be significant come summer, particularly in terms of the type of player we bring in and the balance they will provide. However, I believe multiple changes are necessary; one player cannot fix everything at once.”
