Ajax’s Pursuit of Dick Schreuder: A Strategic Move for the Future

Ajax should make every effort this summer to secure Dick Schreuder from NEC, as suggested by Johan Derksen in the podcast “Groeten uit Grolloo.” The current coach of the Nijmegen team could significantly assist Ajax during this challenging period, according to Derksen.

Jordi Cruijff has been appointed to search for a permanent replacement for John Heitinga in the near future. Heitinga was dismissed in November, with Fred Grim stepping in to manage the remainder of the season. However, Cruijff aims to have a new head coach in place for the long term by next summer. While several Spanish candidates have been considered, Derksen emphasizes that Ajax should first take a closer look at Nijmegen.

Reports, including one from Het Parool, indicate that Schreuder is indeed on Ajax’s shortlist. In early January, the head coach addressed the rumors during a radio interview on “Langs De Lijn en Omstreken.” He stated, “I have a very good feeling at NEC, and I am quite happy here, so it seems important for me to focus on that rather than on the future.” Nonetheless, Schreuder also acknowledged his ambitions, hinting at a potential openness to new opportunities.
