Alfonso Pedraza to Depart from Villarreal for Lazio Next SummerAlfonso Pedraza to Depart from Villarreal for Lazio Next Summer

After spending nearly a decade at Villarreal, where he joined in the summer of 2011 at the age of 15, Alfonso Pedraza is set to conclude his career with the yellow team next summer.

The Córdoba native, whose contract is expiring this coming summer, has already committed to Italian club Lazio as a free agent since January 1. Villarreal was aware of these negotiations, which do not significantly impact the future of a squad that is looking to bolster the left-back position with the return of Carlos Romero, currently on loan.

Pedraza has been having an outstanding season, earning a starting position over Sergi Cardona. Having recovered from previous physical issues that sidelined him for a considerable time in recent campaigns, the Andalusian player has showcased the form that once earned him international recognition.

As a result, it is no surprise that he has attracted interest from several teams in the market, especially with his contract nearing its end. Ultimately, Lazio has secured his services.

Despite Pedraza’s importance to Villarreal’s current tactics, his departure is accepted with a sense of understanding. With Romero returning, who has been one of the top left-backs in the league this season, Villarreal faces the challenge of accommodating three high-caliber players in the same position should they renew Pedraza’s contract. Therefore, with Cardona and Romero, the left-back position will continue to be well managed.

For Pedraza, this move represents an opportunity for a lucrative contract, reportedly tying him to the Italian club for the next two seasons with an option to extend for a third year, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Although his future lies away from the Castellon team, there is no doubt about Alfonso Pedraza’s commitment to the yellow jersey. After over 220 appearances for the first team and a significant tenure in the academy, both the club and the player are confident he will continue to give his best in every match. This new scenario is not expected to alter his role within the team or the trust placed in him by coach Marcelino.

Recently, there have been reports of Lazio’s interest in expediting Pedraza’s arrival this January if they manage to offload left-back Nuno Tavares. This option could provide Villarreal with an income that would not be available in the summer.

Nevertheless, it appears that Villarreal is not inclined to lose one of their key players at this juncture, nor is Pedraza eager to leave the club mid-season, unless circumstances change in the coming weeks.
