Almada Reflects on Team Growth and Challenges After MatchAlmada Reflects on Team Growth and Challenges After Match

omidbasir- Following the match, Oviedo’s coach, Guillermo Almada, delivered a clear message: while the result was disappointing, the team is beginning to exhibit undeniable signs of progress. Almada expressed his sadness over not securing three points, yet maintained that the overall performance inspires optimism.

“We are disappointed. Firstly, because we deserved the victory based on our performance, and secondly, because we created numerous clear opportunities. I believe this is the right path. Despite the limited time we’ve had, the players have learned well. We are not better or worse than before; we are different. We are on the right track,” he stated.

A recurring issue for the team has been their finishing ability. Almada candidly acknowledged that creating chances is not sufficient if they do not translate into goals. “It hurts because we delivered a convincing performance with multiple opportunities, and failing to convert them affects us,” he remarked. Nevertheless, he chose to focus on the positives: “To come and impose our game in a challenging venue is not easy.”

The coach further addressed the team’s anxiety in the final moments of matches. “Scoring a goal brings the greatest joy, and given our current situation, it’s natural to feel anxious when it comes to finishing. We need to confront this, and I hope we can improve our effectiveness, as matches are won with goals,” Almada explained. He deemed the match’s outcome unfair, noting, “They had few chances but scored a stunning free kick.”

Almada also pointed out two specific incidents that he believed adversely affected his team. “Neither Fede’s incident nor Sibo’s free kick was a foul,” he stated emphatically. “Football is a contact sport: Sibo arrived first, headed the ball, and the body’s mechanics are what they are. These two actions harmed us.”

He praised Nico Fonseca, who made his debut with Oviedo: “He entered with confidence, demanded the ball, pressed well, and did so during a challenging moment in the match. I am sure he will contribute significantly to our campaign.”

Regarding the future of the squad, Almada asserted, “I count on everyone. I do not foresee any departures. Today, Forés cannot leave because we lack sufficient players in that position.” He opened the door to potential changes only under extreme circumstances: “The only way would be if a player does not want to stay, but we will not force anyone to remain.”

Finally, Almada highlighted the commitment within the locker room and reached out to the fans. “From day one, we have encountered a tremendous willingness to work. The dedication has been constant,” he emphasized. He concluded with a clear wish: “To overcome this situation, we need our supporters. We are pleased to see them engaged, and we hope to bring them many victories.”
