Florian Plettenberg reports that the loan transfer of Borussia Dortmund defender Almugera Kabar to Hamburg has unexpectedly fallen through at the last moment. This deal, which had been in negotiation since the beginning of the January 2026 transfer window, unraveled yesterday following Kabar’s medical examination at the Volksparkstadion.

Plettenberg clarifies that Kabar did not fail his medical examination; however, the two clubs held differing opinions regarding the player’s fitness. It appears that Hamburg expressed dissatisfaction with Kabar’s physical condition upon his arrival. Notably, Kabar has yet to make an appearance for the BVB first team this season, with his last competitive outing being for the BVB reserves in December in the fourth tier.

Given the interest he garnered during the summer transfer window, one might assume that other clubs would be keen to sign him. However, it now seems improbable that any team will pursue a last-minute medical after concerns about Kabar’s fitness have come to light. The 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup winner is likely to remain with Borussia Dortmund for the foreseeable future.
