Amorim Addresses Sesko s Early Struggles at Manchester UnitedAmorim Addresses Sesko s Early Struggles at Manchester United

MANCHESTER, England — Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that Benjamin Sesko has faced difficulties since joining Manchester United this summer, especially in light of recent criticism from former defender Gary Neville.

Sesko has managed to score just two goals in 11 appearances since his £73.7 million ($97 million) transfer from RB Leipzig. His performance in the recent 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest raised concerns, as the 22-year-old recorded only 21 touches throughout the match. Neville expressed his desire to see more from Sesko, labeling him as “awkward.”

In response to these comments, Amorim conceded that Sesko has indeed struggled at United but expressed confidence in the striker’s potential for success in the Premier League as they prepare for their upcoming matchup against Tottenham this Saturday.

“Of course, nobody likes to hear criticism, but he has struggled a little bit, and that is a fact,” Amorim stated. “Let’s embrace that. It’s not personal; it’s just an opinion that can change in a matter of weeks. What may seem true today could be different in three weeks. It’s a tough reality to hear.

“We are committed to helping him and protecting Ben because he works very hard, and we are determined to see him succeed. He will succeed.”

During his time at RB Leipzig, Sesko was regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young strikers, netting 39 goals in 87 matches over two seasons. His impressive form attracted interest from clubs like Arsenal and Newcastle before he ultimately chose to join Manchester United.

Amorim noted that Sesko could not have selected a more demanding club to represent due to the immense pressure surrounding Manchester United. He emphasized the importance of allowing time for the young striker to adapt to a new team and country.

“I am relaxed about the situation; he is not,” Amorim remarked. “I understand the realities of football, and it is normal for him to struggle. He lacks experience here, and with the high expectations surrounding him, it can be overwhelming.

“At a club like this, if you do not perform consistently, you will hear criticism from former players, pundits, and the media, and sometimes they are justified. It is vital for him to grasp that this is a normal part of football and to maintain his confidence despite the challenges. He is set to be our long-term striker.

“He will encounter struggles and setbacks along the way, but that is simply part of the journey in football.”
