Amorim s Defiant Stance Amid Criticism Following Leeds DrawAmorim s Defiant Stance Amid Criticism Following Leeds Draw

omidbasir- Following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Leeds on Sunday, Manager Amorim was questioned about his support from the board. His response was notably forthright.

Amorim stated, “To begin with, I’ve noticed that you’ve received selective information regarding everything. I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not merely to fulfill a coaching role. That distinction is important. While my name may not carry the weight of [Thomas] Tuchel, [Antonio] Conte, or [Jose] Mourinho, I am the manager of this club. This arrangement is set for 18 months, or until the board decides otherwise. I want to make this clear: I am not resigning. I will continue my responsibilities until a successor arrives.”

While many fans have shown support for Amorim’s candid remarks, others, including former player Arron Scholes, have criticized him harshly. Scholes’ son took to social media, denouncing Amorim and likening him to Mourinho, who was dismissed by United in December 2018, stating, “Sling it then, you useless pr*ck. You’ve claimed you’d leave, yet here you are, another Mourinho seeking a payout. You have been backed and yet made some of the worst tactical decisions I’ve ever witnessed. The blame lies solely with you. Own it as promised and depart.”

Amorim was afforded over £200 million to strengthen the squad last summer, but there are indications he is seeking further investment in the upcoming January transfer window.

In the match against Leeds, United achieved an Expected Goals tally of 1.46 compared to Leeds’ 0.92, recorded 15 shots to Leeds’ 10, and maintained 54.8 percent possession. However, a late equalizer from Matheus Cunha meant the team could not secure the win. United currently sits sixth in the Premier League table, and Amorim’s recent comments suggest he may not intend to remain at Old Trafford for the long term.

He further articulated, “I want to reiterate that I am here as the manager, not just the coach. All departments, including scouting and the sporting director, must fulfill their responsibilities. I will do my job for 18 months, then we will all move on. It’s crucial to emphasize that I am the manager of this team. If anyone struggles with the criticisms from figures like Gary Neville, perhaps we need to reassess the club’s approach.”

After drawing with both Wolves and Leeds in consecutive matches, United aims to return to winning form when they face relegation-threatened Burnley on Wednesday.

Regarding the Leeds match, Amorim reflected, “We had several opportunities to win. We are losing matches due to small details—Leeds’ goal came during a moment we were controlling the game. However, we managed to equalize. This season, we are more in control compared to last year, which adds to our frustration not to secure a victory.”
