Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has effectively confirmed Antoine Semenyo’s upcoming transfer to Manchester City, praising the winger’s “fairytale ending” after he scored a late winner against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

According to sources from ESPN, Semenyo is scheduled to undergo a medical examination with Manchester City later this week, as the club has indicated its intention to activate the £65 million ($88 million) release clause in his contract.

On the occasion of his 26th birthday, the Ghana international scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time, leading Bournemouth to a thrilling 3-2 victory. Following his goal, Semenyo received a standing ovation and was serenaded by the home supporters at the Vitality Stadium upon his substitution shortly thereafter.

“It’s a fairytale ending,” Iraola remarked to the BBC. “Football sometimes rewards those who are truly committed. He ranks among the best players I have ever coached.”

Iraola also acknowledged Semenyo’s remarkable ability to maintain high performance levels amid transfer discussions with City. “It’s not easy to achieve what he has done, as many players would have reacted differently in such circumstances,” he stated during a news conference.

“He has never made excuses and was always ready to contribute whatever was needed. We have made significant efforts to retain him until the last moment, and it is fitting that he departs with the sentiments he experienced at the end: the substitution and the supporters’ reception. He has truly earned this.”

“I am very happy for him, not only because he is an outstanding player but also because he is an exceptional person.”

In contrast, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola refrained from commenting further on the potential transfer following his team’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Brighton on Wednesday. “I don’t know. I cannot predict what will happen in the transfer window,” he said.
