Anthony Martial Faces Injury Setback at MonterreyAnthony Martial Faces Injury Setback at Monterrey

omidbasir- According to talkSPORT, Anthony Martial is expected to be out of action for four to six weeks unless surgery is required, in which case his recovery could extend to three to six months.

This injury setback further complicates Martial’s challenging tenure in Liga MX, having transferred to Monterrey from AEK Athens in September. The former Manchester United striker has struggled to make an impact, with only one goal to show for his 19 appearances at the Mexican club.

Martial suffered the injury after falling awkwardly while contesting a loose ball, and he was subsequently transported to a local hospital via ambulance for treatment, as reported by Soy Futbol. Monterrey confirmed Martial’s diagnosis in an official statement, which noted: “Club de Futbol Monterrey reports that player Anthony Martial suffered a dislocated right shoulder during the Matchday 6 game against Leon at BBVA Stadium. Anthony’s recovery prognosis is subject to change.”

As a result of this injury, Martial is likely to miss Monterrey’s upcoming matches against Pumas UNAM, Cruz Azul, and Queretaro. His absence is particularly concerning for the team, currently positioned sixth in the Clausura standings, as they seek to maintain their competitive edge.

Monterrey acquired Martial for a reported fee of $4.5 million, and he is contracted to the Estadio BBVA until the end of 2027. Initially, he joined the club to partner with Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos, but the former Spain international departed Monterrey in December after opting not to extend his contract.

Martial’s career trajectory has experienced a notable decline since his departure from Old Trafford. After a nine-year stint at Manchester United, he joined AEK Athens in 2024 following a brief loan at Sevilla, where he scored seven goals in 16 league matches. However, persistent injury issues have curtailed his opportunities on the field.

As he approaches the age of 30, the question remains whether Martial can recover from this latest injury and rediscover his form to compete at an elite level once again.
