It seems increasingly likely that Antoine Semenyo will be on the move before the winter transfer window of 2026 closes, particularly due to a release clause in his contract that can be activated by any of his growing list of interested clubs.

Reports indicate that Manchester City is leading the pursuit for the powerful forward, who scored 13 goals last season and has found the net another nine times this term. Liverpool has also shown interest amid uncertainties surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield.

Dwight Yorke, the former Manchester United star, believes that the club should make every effort to secure another exciting winger like Semenyo. He stated in a recent interview with PokerScout, “Antoine Semenyo is arguably one of the best players in the Premier League right now, especially considering the team he currently represents. If he were to join a stronger side with better players, his potential would be immense. The interest from top clubs is a testament to his consistency and performance.”

Yorke further elaborated on Semenyo’s potential fit at Manchester United, asserting, “He would certainly excite fans. His ability to carry the ball up the pitch could relieve defensive pressure, which has been critical to United’s success historically. Players like Andrei Kanchelskis, Ryan Giggs, and Cristiano Ronaldo have excelled in this role. Semenyo can bring not only goals but also creativity, although I wouldn’t see him thriving as a wing-back.”

He also noted that the tactical preferences of manager Ruben Amorim will significantly influence Semenyo’s decision. “If I were in his position, I wouldn’t want to play as a wing-back, as it would limit my creative capabilities. An initial discussion would certainly be beneficial, but he is undoubtedly a player that Manchester United, City, and many others would covet.”

In addition to calling for new signings, Yorke expressed hope that the club can retain key players. Club captain Bruno Fernandes, who has recently been the subject of speculation regarding his future, particularly with interest from the Saudi Pro League, may be swayed to stay if United secures Champions League qualification.

“Bruno Fernandes has been the talisman of the club for the past five years,” Yorke remarked. “While Marcus Rashford has had standout seasons, Bruno has consistently been a pivotal player. His resilience in rejecting a move to Saudi Arabia was commendable, and it seems to have been a prudent decision from Manchester United’s perspective.”

Yorke also suggested that the recent signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha could bolster Fernandes’ confidence, enhancing the attacking force of the team. “United’s attacking front has always been strong; however, there remains room for improvement in defense and midfield. The upcoming campaign will still require significant work to close the gap and secure titles with Amorim at the helm.”

Final thoughts from Yorke indicated that Fernandes will likely assess his future based on the season’s outcome. “If United fails to qualify for the Champions League, it could drastically change his perspective on staying. Ultimately, he must consider what is best for his career.”

Currently, Manchester United is positioned sixth in the Premier League, struggling for consistency. Their last match ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw against lowly Wolves, leading to heightened scrutiny of Amorim. The team desperately seeks a strong performance in their upcoming fixture against rivals Leeds on Sunday.
