Antoine Semenyo was a target for Premier League clubs Manchester United and Tottenham during the summer transfer window. However, both clubs ultimately pursued Bryan Mbeumo and Mohammed Kudus instead. The 25-year-old forward from Bournemouth has since signed a five-year contract, securing his position with the club until 2030.

This contract includes a £65 million release clause that will become active next month, remaining open until January 10th, allowing Bournemouth time to find a suitable replacement for their star player. Semenyo has made an impressive start to the Premier League season, netting eight goals and providing three assists for Andoni Iraola’s team.

His remarkable form has drawn interest from Premier League heavyweights such as Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea, with United and Spurs also briefly considering him. It appears that Manchester City is poised to take the lead in acquiring Semenyo, with plans to intensify their interest in the coming days.

Semenyo’s personal coach, Saul Isaksson-Hurst, asserts that the player is capable of competing at the highest levels, stating that he could thrive at clubs like Real Madrid or Barcelona. “Antoine could play wherever he likes. He’s sensational and ready to take on the world. He has everything that top clubs would desire,” Isaksson-Hurst remarked.

Due to Ghana’s failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, Semenyo is available to contribute during the festive period. Despite his strong start, Isaksson-Hurst believes that Semenyo’s season is just beginning. “It’s a significant year for him, and he’s not going to ease off. His priority is to excel with Bournemouth and become one of the top players in the league.”

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has publicly praised Semenyo, describing him as an “extraordinary player” who consistently makes an impact with his energy and movement. “Players like him make this league special—always hungry and brave,” Guardiola added.

Former goalkeeper Rob Green highlighted Semenyo’s unique ability to drive forward with the ball, a quality that fits the specific needs of City, especially with current injury challenges. However, he also raised questions about the impact of a potential signing on other players, like Savinho, at the Etihad Stadium.

City will have to wait until the January transfer window opens to finalize Semenyo’s registration, if they proceed with the acquisition. Meanwhile, their upcoming fixtures include a home match against Nottingham Forest and a trip to Sunderland, followed by crucial home games against Brighton and Chelsea as they embark on a busy start to the new year.
