omidbasir- Real Betis winger Antony has issued an apology to the club’s supporters after receiving a red card for inadvertently striking a rival player in the face during Sunday’s LaLiga match against Girona.

In the 87th minute, with the score tied at 1-1, Antony attempted an overhead kick to control the ball in Girona’s penalty area. Unfortunately, his boot missed the ball and made contact with the face of opponent Joel Roca. Following a VAR review, referee Iosu Galech Apezteguía upgraded the initial yellow card to a straight red.

As he departed the pitch, Antony made gestures of apology towards the Betis fans. Despite the sending-off, Betis managed to secure a draw, although the Brazil international will now miss the crucial league derby against Sevilla this Sunday.

Antony, 25, took to Instagram to express his feelings, stating: “I am very sad about the red card. All I wanted was to help my team win. It was a completely unintentional move… I apologize to all the fans who have always supported me.”

Since making a permanent transfer from Manchester United in September, Antony has scored six goals in 12 appearances across all competitions. He previously demonstrated his talent while on loan at Betis during the latter half of last season, earning a spot as a regular in Manuel Pellegrini’s starting lineup.

Currently sitting fifth in LaLiga, Betis will host FC Utrecht in the Europa League on Thursday, followed by the derby against Sevilla at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán this weekend.
