Antony Apologizes Following Red Card IncidentAntony Apologizes Following Red Card Incident

omidbasir- Real Betis winger Antony has issued an apology to the club’s fans after being sent off for accidentally kicking a rival player in the face during Sunday’s LaLiga match against Girona.

In the 87th minute, with the score tied at 1-1, Antony attempted to control the ball inside Girona’s penalty area with an overhead kick. Unfortunately, his foot missed the ball and made contact with Joel Roca’s face.

After a review by VAR, referee Iosu Galech Apezteguía upgraded Antony’s initial yellow card to a straight red card. As he left the pitch, Antony made gestures of apology toward the Betis supporters.

Despite the sending-off, Betis managed to secure a draw. However, Antony’s red card will result in his absence from the upcoming league derby against Sevilla on Sunday.

Antony, 25, took to Instagram to express his remorse: “I am very sad about the red card. All I wanted was to help my team win. It was a completely unintentional action… I apologize to all the fans who have always supported me.”

Since joining Betis permanently from Manchester United in September, Antony has made a significant impact, scoring six goals in 12 appearances across all competitions.

The Brazilian winger, who impressed during his loan spell at Betis last season, has become a key player in Manuel Pellegrini’s starting lineup.

Currently sitting fifth in LaLiga, Betis will host FC Utrecht in the Europa League on Thursday before facing Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán this weekend.
