Araujo Joins Celtic Aiming for Success Amidst ChallengesAraujo Joins Celtic Aiming for Success Amidst Challenges

Araujo, who moved to England in 2024 after a stint at Las Palmas and time with Barcelona’s reserve team, struggled to secure playing time at Bournemouth, despite the club investing nearly $10 million in his transfer. His last appearance came in August 2025, which ended in a red card following two yellow cards.

Expressing his excitement about joining Celtic, Araujo stated, “I’m really happy to join Celtic. This is a top club with high standards, and I’m eager to get to work with my teammates to help bring success to the supporters. I know what’s demanded at a club like this, and I feel ready for the challenge ahead,” as quoted on the club’s official website.

With the 2026 World Cup approaching, securing regular playing time is now a priority for Araujo as he seeks to reestablish himself both at the club and international levels.

Araujo becomes the second Mexican player in history to don the Celtic jersey, following Efraín Juárez, who played for the club in 2010 and is currently the head coach of Pumas. His arrival occurs at a critical juncture for Celtic, amidst growing fan discontent regarding recent sporting decisions and changes in the club’s leadership.

Having previously showcased his talent with 100 appearances for LA Galaxy, Araujo will now collaborate with Wilfried Nancy, who achieved MLS Cup victory in 2023 and was named MLS Coach of the Year in 2024. Celtic’s next match is scheduled for Saturday against their traditional rivals, Rangers.
