He pointed out that after Jordan Henderson announced his departure on July 15, the club had seven weeks to secure an experienced defensive midfielder. He highlighted that Christian Eriksen was available on a free transfer and that Daley Blind had a buyout clause of just half a million euros. Despite these opportunities, the club opted not to pursue them and instead brought in McConnell, who is merely a reserve player from Liverpool.
