Arsenal Advances to Carabao Cup Final A Magical Moment for ArtetaArsenal Advances to Carabao Cup Final A Magical Moment for Arteta

LONDON — Mikel Arteta has characterized Arsenal’s remarkable achievement in securing a spot in the Carabao Cup Final as “the best vitamins we can put in our bodies.”

A stoppage-time goal from substitute Kai Havertz propelled the Gunners to a 1-0 victory over Chelsea on Tuesday, confirming a 4-2 aggregate win that marks Arsenal’s first appearance in a major cup final in six years.

On a cold and rainy evening at the Emirates Stadium, Chelsea adopted a conservative strategy that turned the match into a tactical battle, yet they were unable to pose a significant goal threat, even after introducing Cole Palmer and Estêvão in the second half.

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior faced his first major disappointment since taking over from Enzo Maresca last month. In contrast, Arteta is now preparing for a Wembley showdown against either Manchester City or Newcastle United on March 22.

Under Arteta, Arsenal’s sole trophy came in the 2020 FA Cup final, and they had been unsuccessful in their last four semifinal attempts prior to this victory.

“We are just one match away,” Arteta expressed at a news conference. “This is the best boost we can receive as we are playing every three days. The effort we have put into reaching these moments makes it truly magical.

“You can witness the joy, the smiles, and the energy from everyone associated with the club. Winning enhances confidence, energy, you name it. We will be ready in a few weeks; our preparation will be thorough.

“In the meantime, we recognize the need to put this achievement aside, as we face a crucial Premier League match against Sunderland in just three days.”

Havertz celebrated his goal against his former club by pointing to the Arsenal badge, embraced by teammates who acknowledged his challenging year marred by severe hamstring and knee injuries.

“Not just for myself, but everyone who knows Kai feels genuinely happy for him, as he truly deserves this,” Arteta remarked. “His work ethic, treatment of others, and daily conduct are commendable.

“Today was a special moment for him, and I hope he savored it, as he has fully earned it.”

Rosenior later disclosed that Reece James and Pedro Neto had failed fitness tests on the morning of the match, urging his players to rebound against Wolves in their upcoming Premier League fixture.

“There are several encouraging signs,” he stated. “Now I need to observe how we respond after this setback. We must react positively, especially with a challenging match against Wolves on Saturday ahead of us.”
