Arsenal and Chelsea Set for Carabao Cup Semi Final ShowdownArsenal and Chelsea Set for Carabao Cup Semi Final Showdown

Arsenal and Chelsea are poised to reignite their rivalry on Wednesday evening at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. The Gunners approach this fixture with confidence, currently sitting six points clear at the top of the Premier League, having progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup, and leading their Champions League group.

Despite managing only one trophy during his tenure—the FA Cup in 2020—manager Mikel Arteta is optimistic about the team’s chances this season. Ahead of the matchup, he emphasized the importance of learning from last year’s semi-final defeat against Newcastle, urging his players to overcome the challenge posed by Chelsea. Arteta remarked, “That’s the mission. Hopefully we’ll learn from last year because it was painful, especially the manner that the games went and the amount of chances that we missed not to go through. But hopefully this year we are better and especially more efficient. The more you are involved in these kinds of games, the better because it brings different energy to the team and reinforces our motivation to reach the final. We recognize that we are just two games away from that objective. Our focus must remain on the first game at Stamford Bridge against a formidable opponent.”

Arteta also provided an update on Kai Havertz, who has returned from injury and could be set to face his former club. He stated, “Obviously we missed him a lot. A year is a long time in football, but he looks really fit and confident upon his return. He is a highly intelligent player who connects well with his teammates, and you can see how much they appreciate him. Every time he was near the box, there was excitement from the bench. We are pleased to have him back, and we must ensure he remains fit and manages his minutes. He had a productive 20-25 minute stint the other day and trained well again today. Our focus now is on building his robustness to ensure he is available for every game.”

The upcoming match against Chelsea is part of a demanding schedule for Arsenal, which also includes fixtures against Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, and Leeds in the Premier League, as well as Inter and Kairat Almaty in the Champions League. Following these matches, Arsenal will host Chelsea for the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, with the winners advancing to face either Newcastle or Manchester City in the final.
