All eyes will be on North London this Tuesday as Arsenal hosts Aston Villa in what promises to be a pivotal match at the top of the league table.

The Gunners enter the fixture with high spirits, having won five consecutive matches across all competitions since their 2-1 defeat to Villa earlier this month.

In that previous encounter, Villa’s midfielder Emi Buendia scored a last-minute winner, but Arsenal has since rebounded with victories over Club Brugge, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton, Crystal Palace, and Brighton & Hove Albion in various competitions including the league, Champions League, and Carabao Cup.

While Arsenal has not displayed their most dazzling form during these victories, the team has demonstrated remarkable resilience, consistently securing three points even while not operating at full strength. This is particularly noteworthy given the defensive injury crisis that has sidelined players such as Jurrien Timber, Ben White, Cristhian Mosquera, and Riccardo Calafiori.

Arsenal was briefly displaced at the top of the standings by title rivals Manchester City following their 2-1 win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. However, the Gunners promptly regained the lead by defeating Brighton by the same scoreline at home.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa arrives at the Emirates Stadium in strong form, having achieved their 11th consecutive victory in all competitions after a comeback win against Chelsea last Saturday. This remarkable feat matches a club record that dates back to 1897 and 1914, with substitute Ollie Watkins netting two goals in the second half to elate the traveling fans at Stamford Bridge.

Like Arsenal, Villa—currently sitting just three points behind in third place—has shown impressive tenacity this season, managing to come from behind in each of their five away wins.

Despite these impressive statistics, manager Unai Emery has downplayed suggestions that Villa is in contention for the title alongside Arsenal and Manchester City. When asked about Villa’s potential to claim their first league title since the 1980-81 season, Emery stated, “Not really.” He emphasized the need to focus on competing for European qualification rather than engaging in a title race, acknowledging the challenges posed by teams like Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

In a pre-match press conference, Emery continued to dismiss Villa’s title hopes while engaging in a bit of mind games by labeling Arsenal as the frontrunners. “I think they are favorites,” he noted, highlighting Arsenal’s team-building efforts and their depth in squad. He acknowledged the strength of Arsenal’s returning players and expressed confidence in Villa’s tactical readiness for the encounter.

On the other hand, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed confidence that his team is prepared for the challenge posed by Manchester City, bolstered by their recent victory over Brighton.
