Arsenal’s head coach, Renee Slegers, who led the team to victory in the Champions League, has signed a new long-term contract that extends until 2029.

Discussions regarding this contract had been underway since the summer, following Slegers’ permanent appointment in January 2025, after she initially served as the interim head coach.

In a statement to the club media, Slegers expressed her enthusiasm: “I’m delighted to have signed a new contract here, as I believe we have so much to achieve together—this season and in the years to come. I’d like to show my gratitude to our supporters for the incredible backing you give us, whether it’s at Emirates Stadium, Meadow Park, or on the road. We hear it, we see it, and we feel it every day.”

In addition to Slegers’ contract extension, former player and current Technical Services Manager Jodie Taylor has been appointed as Technical Director. In this new role, she will serve as a vital link between the analysis, technical, and recruitment departments to address operational bottlenecks that have been identified. Although Taylor has been performing similar duties for some time, she will now collaborate closely with Slegers, taking over day-to-day communications with Clare Wheatley, who will step back from those responsibilities.

Slegers, who began as an assistant coach at Arsenal in 2023 following a successful two-year tenure at Rosengard, where she secured consecutive Swedish League titles, has already demonstrated her capabilities by overseeing an impressive 11-game unbeaten streak and a second-place finish in the Women’s Super League last season—Arsenal’s best performance in three years.

This long-term deal signifies a commitment not only to Slegers but also to her professional development, enabling her to lead the club through three significant summer transfer windows, during which Arsenal anticipates an active presence in the market.
