omidbasir- Mikel Arteta has expressed his confidence in Kai Havertz, asserting that the player has the potential to elevate Arsenal’s performance following his impressive display in the 3-2 Champions League victory against Kairat at the Emirates Stadium.

Havertz marked his first start in 357 days after recovering from hamstring and knee surgeries by assisting Viktor Gyokeres within just two minutes of the match. Although Jorginho equalized for Kairat with a penalty shortly thereafter, Havertz quickly restored Arsenal’s lead with his first goal in nearly a year. Gabriel Martinelli then extended the advantage by converting a cross from Havertz just before halftime. Ricardinho’s late header for Kairat provided a mere consolation as Arsenal completed a perfect group stage run with eight victories.

Although Havertz was substituted at halftime as part of a strategy to gradually reintegrate him into full fitness, Arteta emphasized the significance of his first-half performance: “It is going to give him a lot of confidence, joy, and energy, not only for himself but for the entire team. The players recognize how critical Kai is for us and how he can enhance our performance to reach another level. His ability to contribute today after such a prolonged absence was truly impressive.”

Arteta further elaborated on Havertz’s quality and connection with the team, noting the positive impact of his goal and assists. He reiterated the importance of managing Havertz’s return: “Let’s ensure we utilize him effectively, as he will be crucial for us in the latter part of the season.”

When asked about the decision to substitute the 26-year-old at halftime, Arteta responded: “He is fine. That was our plan— to have him play the first 45 minutes. I’m certain he wanted to continue.”

Arsenal’s victory secured them the top position in the group stage, having won all eight games. After a semifinal exit last season, Arteta’s team will advance to the last 16 in March, where they will face either Atalanta, Bayer Leverkusen, Olympiacos, or Borussia Dortmund.

Arteta concluded, “I am immensely proud of the players and our remarkable run in the initial stages of this competition. Winning eight consecutive matches in the Champions League is a significant achievement, especially considering the fate of other teams. We need to recognize that accomplishment, but now we must pause for reflection and prepare for our next opponents, taking it one game at a time.”

Arsenal’s focus will soon shift back to Premier League action as they prepare to visit Elland Road to face Leeds on Saturday. Despite a recent loss to Manchester United, the Gunners remain four points clear at the top of the league table.
