Mikel Arteta convened a meeting with his Arsenal players following their recent defeat to Manchester United, aiming to “bring the temperature down” and reassure them of the promising path ahead.

The 3-2 loss against Manchester United marked Arsenal’s first home defeat of the season and only their third in the Premier League out of 23 matches. Despite this setback, the Gunners maintain a four-point lead over Manchester City and Aston Villa, although they have not secured a win in their last three domestic league matches, having drawn with Nottingham Forest and Liverpool.

Arteta described the team’s response during the meeting as “excellent,” indicating that it bodes well for their chances of success in the coming months. “We took a moment to pause and reflect, asking ourselves how we feel and how we plan to approach the next four months. What emerged from this discussion was incredibly encouraging and straightforward,” he noted.

The Arsenal manager shared these insights during a news conference ahead of their home Champions League match against Kairat on Wednesday. Arsenal currently leads their European group with seven consecutive victories, while their visitors from Kazakhstan sit at the bottom of the group table.

Arsenal’s pursuit of their first Premier League title since 2004 remains strong, alongside ambitions for domestic cup success and a challenge for the Champions League trophy. Arteta asserted, “We have earned the right to be in a strong position across four competitions. In the next four months, we will play with enjoyment and conviction, believing we can achieve our goals. This mindset will direct our energy moving forward, and I hope all supporters join us on this journey, as we deserve to live this way.”

Arteta mentioned that he holds team meetings every three to four weeks, with the latest serving as a reminder for the players to appreciate their current standing and to assure them of their potential. Arsenal has finished second in the Premier League for the last three seasons and has not lifted a trophy since winning the FA Cup in 2020, Arteta’s inaugural season in charge.

During the match against Manchester United, there was a palpable tension among the home crowd, with boos echoing at the final whistle. In response, Arteta encouraged supporters to remain optimistic, stating, “That’s why I invited them to join this journey because it’s going to be exhilarating. From this experience, many incredible outcomes will arise—some of which we cannot even foresee. This is how we choose to embrace the moment, as we are dedicated to giving everything.”

Arteta clarified that the meeting was not prompted by external pressures, but rather an opportunity to reflect after a demanding schedule. Prior to the defeat, Arsenal had played four consecutive away matches in various competitions, winning three and drawing one. They currently sit atop the Premier League, boast a perfect record in the Champions League, lead Chelsea after the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, and have advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

“It is beautiful to envision what lies ahead,” Arteta concluded. “I am confident because this team and these players have consistently given us every reason to believe that the outcome will be positive.”
