omidbasir- The season has unfolded remarkably well for RB Leipzig midfielder Assan Ouédraogo. The 19-year-old made headlines by scoring just two minutes into his debut for the German national team on Tuesday, remarkably at the home ground of his Bundesliga club. On returning to the Red Bull Arena for a Bundesliga fixture against Werder Bremen, Ouédraogo showcased his prowess again by netting a spectacular goal, which turned out to be the decisive score of the match.

Despite the victory, Ouédraogo humbly stated that this goal wasn’t the best he’s ever scored. Reflecting on his earlier experiences in the DFB youth ranks during a post-match interview, he mentioned, “I’ve scored two better ones. One in the U-19 European Championship with a drop kick into the corner and another in the U-15 where I scored directly off the kickoff. This one was a bit lucky. I try to play my game and things are certainly going well at the moment, but I’m having some luck and will take that too.”

Ouédraogo also expressed his satisfaction with the week, saying, “It’s been a perfect week: two goals, two wins, and two clean sheets. It doesn’t get any better than this.”

His recent success aligns seamlessly with the narrative of RB Leipzig’s season, as newly appointed head coach Ole Werner faced significant challenges following a heavy 6-0 defeat to FC Bayern Munich. Amid rumors of potential transfers over the summer that strained relationships within the club, Austrian midfielder Christoph Baumgartner has flourished, providing an assist for Leipzig’s second goal.

Both Baumgartner and Werner praised Ouédraogo’s notable improvement in their post-match comments. Baumgartner remarked, “I’m very happy for him because he had a difficult time in his first year. He’s currently on a high, inspired by the national team and his goals. That goal was an expression of pure quality.”

Werner added, “It’s special to work with young players who perform like this. One observes them getting better every day in training and matches. Assan has developed superbly so far and is certainly not near the top of his potential yet.”
