The Athletic coach approaches the break with a much-needed and celebrated victory.

“We’ve lifted a weight off our shoulders with this win. It was essential for us to secure another victory, which we discussed with the players. Our level of pressure was commendable as we did not allow the opponent to advance significantly. The scoreline was tight, and we couldn’t convert more chances to secure our lead. With the substitutions, we adapted our approach to launch further attacks,” he stated.

On the nerves following the goal: “A goal always brings a sense of calm, but sometimes it leads to a false sense of security. It seems we want to relax, but pausing allows the opposition to regroup. This was evident with the disallowed goal for Oviedo, as we let them reorganize. Those five to ten minutes were tense, especially after coming off two consecutive losses, which naturally breeds some insecurity.”

Regarding Nico’s return: “Nico possesses the ability to create game-defining moments, even though he is not at his best. I took a risk by including him because we needed his presence on the field.”

On Selton’s performance: “Selton is a player with a remarkable quality and flair that stands out. He does not shy away from effort and consistently moves forward. We have high hopes for him. At just 18 years old, he still needs to develop physically. This is a significant step for both him and us.”

Referring to the turning point: “I’m not sure if it will prove to be a season-defining moment, but it was crucial for today. Victories foster confidence, and this break will be beneficial for recuperating players. After the break, we face important commitments; we are Athletic and ready to tackle them.”
