AZ Denies Transfer Rumors Involving Real Madrid

Eredivisionist AZ has not received any substantial offer from Real Madrid. International media have linked player Kees Smit to a major transfer to the Spanish capital, but Technical Director Max Huiberts has firmly denied these claims.

In a conversation with NH Sport, Huiberts stated, “That has not happened yet. I am not aware of anything, but that does not mean much. Nowadays, players often hear information before the clubs do, making it a very different world.”

Frustration in Alkmaar is palpable as AZ aims for more consistent performances following the winter break. Since early November, the club has not secured a single victory in the league. “We are certainly critical of that, and it is far below our standards,” Huiberts acknowledged. “Our critique is specifically about the last month and a half in the Eredivisie. We still have a chance to finish high, largely because other clubs are experiencing instability as well. We need to eliminate that inconsistency.”
