omidbasir- Folarin Balogun opened the scoring just inside the first minute, propelling Monaco to a 1-0 lead against PSG in their Champions League knockout tie. Left unmarked in the box, the American striker capitalized on the opportunity to head the ball into the net from close range, providing his team with an early advantage.

The lead was doubled in the 18th minute, showcasing Balogun’s skillful play. The forward executed a clever one-two pass with Maghnes Akliouche, quickly maneuvering past PSG captain Marquinhos. The Brazilian defender’s attempt to intervene was futile, as Balogun surged forward and confidently struck his second goal of the match into the back of the net.

These goals add to Balogun’s impressive Champions League resume this season. Prior to Tuesday’s match, he had already established a scoring streak, netting goals against Bodo/Glimt, Pafos FC, and Galatasaray in the concluding matches of 2025, helping Monaco secure their spot in the knockout round. As reported by Paul Carr of TruMediaSports, Balogun has made history by becoming the first American to score in a Champions League knockout phase match. While Bayer Leverkusen’s Malik Tillman has recorded two braces in the competition, both occurred during the group stage.

Additionally, Balogun’s goals on Tuesday marked the end of a scoring drought; he had not found the back of the net since January 10, when he scored in a Coupe de France victory over Orleans. Furthermore, he had not scored against a Ligue 1 opponent since a goal on November 8 against Lens.

USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino, a former star at PSG, will be keenly observing Balogun as preparations for the March camp unfold. Despite his recent challenges at the club level, Balogun has been a standout player for the U.S. team, scoring in each of his three starts during the fall of 2025.

Following the first leg on Tuesday, Monaco is set to face Lens on Saturday before heading to Parc des Princes on February 25 for the crucial second leg.
