Batlle s Journey From Barcelona to Potential Arsenal MoveBatlle s Journey From Barcelona to Potential Arsenal Move

omidbasir- Batlle commenced her professional career at Barcelona but, after struggling to secure a position in their first team, transitioned to Madrid CFF in 2017. In 2018, she moved to Levante, and two years later, signed with Manchester United. Following three successful years in the Women’s Super League, Batlle seized the opportunity to return to FC Barcelona, a decision she regarded as too significant to decline.

In 2023, she expressed, “I left with the mindset I could come back. For me, Barca has always been in my heart, and it’s not easy to say no.”

Since rejoining Barcelona, Batlle has made a substantial impact, contributing to the team’s triumphs in Ligafem twice, the Champions League once, and two Copa de la Reinas. However, indications suggest that this season may be her last with the club.

According to reports from The Athletic, Arsenal is pursuing Batlle, though a deal has yet to be finalized. Discussions are ongoing regarding the Spain international, who is capable of playing on either side of defense. Batlle has made 19 appearances across all competitions this season, but her tenure at Barcelona appears uncertain, especially considering the club’s financial limitations that may also jeopardize the future of star player Putellas.

From Arsenal’s perspective, with McCabe’s contract expiring this summer, Batlle represents an alternative as an inverted full-back rather than a traditional left-back.

In January, Slegers solidified her position at Arsenal by signing a contract extension until 2029 after leading the team to Champions League victory. She initially assumed the role of interim coach in October 2024 and was appointed full-time in 2025. Slegers’ new contract may be a factor in attracting players like Batlle to the club.

Reflecting on her journey, the Dutchwoman remarked, “From playing in the academy and watching Arsenal win the Champions League in 2007, to living out that experience with our players, staff, and supporters last summer, I’m immensely proud to have shared this journey with Arsenal. I’m delighted to have signed a new contract as I believe we have much to achieve together this season and in the years to come. I express my gratitude to our supporters for their incredible backing, whether at Emirates Stadium, Meadow Park, or on the road. We hear it, we see it, and we feel it every day.”

Before any potential signing of Batlle, Arsenal is focused on their inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup final against Corinthians this Sunday. The Gunners have secured at least £725,000 for reaching the final, but Slegers emphasizes the importance of winning the trophy over the financial reward.

“We want to win a trophy,” Slegers stated. “That’s what the players play for, and we are very close now. We are one game away from achieving that. It’s crucial to invest in women’s football for further progress in various areas, including the development of young players, referees, coaching, and more. The increasing financial support in the game is undoubtedly beneficial.”
