Bayern Munich Aims for Continued Dominance Against VfL WolfsburgBayern Munich Aims for Continued Dominance Against VfL Wolfsburg

Bayern Munich will commence their 2026 campaign with a home match against VfL Wolfsburg. Currently nine points ahead of Borussia Dortmund in second place, the reigning champions aim to secure their 14th victory in 16 encounters against a notably unpredictable Wolfsburg team.

Before the winter break, Bayern concluded the last year with an impressive 4-0 victory away at FC Heidenheim. The Bavarians have evidently maintained this momentum into the new year, recently triumphing over RB Salzburg with an emphatic 5-0 score in a friendly.

Bayern’s current form is exceptional; after 15 matchdays, they boast the best record in the history of the Bundesliga. With 55 goals scored, just 11 conceded, and no defeats, it is challenging to envision Bayern not clinching the Bundesliga title this season.

Moreover, their historical performance against Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena is outstanding. Bayern has never lost to Wolfsburg at home in the Bundesliga, with an impressive tally of 26 wins and only two draws.

This upcoming match also marks a significant milestone for head coach Vincent Kompany, as it will be his 50th Bundesliga game in charge, while Michael Olise will also be celebrating his 50th appearance in the league.

Wolfsburg has encountered difficulties this season, leading to the dismissal of former manager Paul Simonis, who has been replaced by Daniel Bauer.

Under Bauer’s management, Wolfsburg’s form has improved slightly, with two wins, two losses, and one draw in their last five Bundesliga matches. With 15 points, the Wolves have marginally distanced themselves from the relegation zone; however, they remain just three points above 16th place St. Pauli.

It is anticipated that Wolfsburg will adopt a defensive strategy in Munich, aiming to capitalize on the few chances they may create.

Bayern will be without midfielder Joshua Kimmich, who is still recovering from an ongoing ankle injury. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is also recuperating from a muscle tear but may be available for selection. If Neuer is unable to play, young talent Jonas Urbig will again take up the position in goal.

Wolfsburg will miss their key forward Mohammed Amoura, who is currently making an impact with Algeria at AFCON. Additionally, Jonas Wind remains sidelined due to hamstring surgery.
