According to Sport Bild’s “Bayern Insider” Podcast, Bayern Munich is currently in talks with the representatives of Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté regarding a possible transfer. The Bavarian club expresses interest in bringing the former RB Leipzig player back to the Bundesliga on a free transfer. Additionally, Bayern has been linked with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi. Konaté, Guéhi, and current Bayern player Dayot Upamecano are part of a significant central defensive shake-up. All three athletes, who possess considerable market value, have contracts that are set to terminate at the end of the current season. Bayern is engaged in negotiations with Upamecano’s camp concerning a potential contract extension. As the January transfer window approaches, the situation is likely to intensify. Once the transfer period opens at the start of the new year, all three players will have the option to negotiate free transfers to other clubs for the subsequent season. Furthermore, clubs like Palace, Liverpool, and Bayern may consider selling these defenders to maximize their financial returns rather than losing them without compensation. Upamecano (€60 million), Konaté (€55 million), and Guéhi (€50 million) represent the three highest-valued footballers globally with expiring contracts. If Bayern successfully extends Upamecano’s contract, it is doubtful they will pursue another central defender, given his impressive performances alongside German center-back Jonathan Tah. Nonetheless, the prospect of a central defensive partnership between Upamecano and Konaté could be appealing for Bayern. Konaté brings a wealth of experience, having made 66 appearances in the German top flight during his four seasons with RB Leipzig. He recently showcased his talent during a Champions League match against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.
