Bayern Munich has officially announced the extension of forward Serge Gnabry’s contract, which was originally set to expire this summer.

The 30-year-old’s new contract will be valid until 2028. Expressing his enthusiasm about the renewal, Gnabry stated, “I’m excited to get to play for Bayern for more years. Talks were always positive. When I started at Bayern, I never would’ve thought that I’d be here for 10 years by the end of this contract. My goals are to keep things going. We’re a real unit and can achieve something big. The reasons to renew my contract are the team, the coaches, the whole club, the fans, the city, and the environment. I feel very much at home at Bayern.”

This season has marked a resurgence in Gnabry’s career at Bayern. Initially, it seemed he might leave upon the expiration of his contract; however, with Jamal Musiala sidelined in the first half of the season, the winger rose to the occasion, becoming a pivotal part of Vincent Kompany’s attack by scoring seven goals and providing eight assists in 26 games.

Gnabry, a Stuttgart native, joined Bayern in 2017 from Werder Bremen for €8 million. Following a successful loan at Hoffenheim, he has remained a key figure in the Bayern squad.

His most notable season came in 2019/20 when he played a crucial role in Bayern’s sextuple victory, particularly during the Champions League campaign, where he was often unplayable.

With this extension, Gnabry and Joshua Kimmich will be the only members of the 1995 generation remaining at Bayern beyond this summer, following Leroy Sané’s transfer to Galatasaray last summer and Leon Goretzka’s impending departure upon the expiration of his contract this summer.
