Bayern Munich Faces Contract Challenges Ahead of 2026Bayern Munich Faces Contract Challenges Ahead of 2026

Bayern Munich is poised for a hectic start to 2026, with as many as seven players entering the final year of their contracts.

According to Kicker, discussions are set to take place in January with representatives of Serge Gnabry and Leon Goretzka. Both players are experiencing a resurgence in form, with Gnabry effectively stepping into the role left by Jamal Musiala behind Harry Kane, contributing four goals and three assists in nine Bundesliga matches.

While both players are open to the possibility of remaining in Bavaria, Bayern Munich is adopting a cautious approach before finalizing decisions regarding the extensions of their contracts beyond 2026.

Negotiations are also ongoing with Dayot Upamecano, although extending his contract is proving to be the most challenging. Reports indicate that the French defender feels settled at Bayern and is open to an extension, contingent upon discussions surrounding his salary and signing bonus. As January approaches, Upamecano will be eligible to negotiate with other clubs.

One proposal on the table is a four-year extension that would incorporate a release clause after two seasons, which could be reduced following a third season.

Kicker notes that Raphael Guerreiro is currently low on Bayern’s priority list, and it appears unlikely that the club will activate their €65 million purchase option for Nicolas Jackson. However, they may consider negotiating with Chelsea to lower the player’s price.

Regarding veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, there is potential for a new one-year contract, while Sven Ulreich is expected to conclude his playing career.
