Bayern Munich’s impressive 18-match unbeaten streak at the outset of the 2025/26 season came to an abrupt end on Wednesday night as the club experienced a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League.

As the team prepares for their Bundesliga encounter against St. Pauli on Saturday, coach Vincent Kompany is eager to see a strong reaction from his players, while acknowledging that the upcoming match will be equally challenging.

“We never want to lose; we do not accept it, and we certainly do not like it,” Kompany stated during a press conference on Friday. “However, our focus now is on our response to this setback, both in relation to the game against Arsenal and in our upcoming match against St. Pauli.

“This is all part of the process of preparing ourselves for the critical moments later in the season.”

Discussing the potential challenges posed by St. Pauli, who are currently in the relegation playoff zone, Kompany reflected on previous encounters: “We have found it tough against them in our last two matches. We are fully aware that their current form, despite having lost eight games, does not guarantee an easy match for us.”

He added, “For St. Pauli, a match against Bayern could be perceived as less pressure as they find themselves at the bottom of the table, which might work in their favor.”
